The truth is that our bodies will very rarely gain significant amounts of fat overnight. But it certainly feels that way when you crawl back home after a raucous evening and an ill-advised trip to the kebab vendor on that dodgy corner. You wake up with a puffy looking belly, you feel awful and the
scale confirms it: you’ve gained weight.

But not all weight is created equal. Some of it is hardly weight at all, and can be better understood as the nasty, distended and wobbly effects of water retention. If you notice that your weight goes up and down by half a pound or so throughout the day, don’t worry, you haven’t turned into the Magical Growing and Shrinking Again Lady, you’re only experiencing normal fluctuations in water weight.
