ST. IGNACE, MI -- Ice falling from cables and towers on the Mackinac Bridge caused to close to traffic Monday.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority announced the closure at 11:08 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed to 20 miles per hour as they approach the bridge and be prepared to stop.

Drivers are also advised to be prepared to encounter black ice. Bridge personnel are stationed at both ends of the structure to provide further instructions to motorists. 

The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring the conditions at various points along the structure. When conditions improve, the bridge will be reopened to traffic.

Those who are planning to travel to the Straits area can dial their radio to AM 530 or 1610 for further updates.
