Sailor Thomas Coville has arrived in the French port of Brest after smashing the arena record for a unmarried-handed non-stop sailing circumnavigation of the globe.

The Frenchman, 48, crossed a end line off Brittany on Sunday after a voyage of 49 days, 3 hours, seven minutes and 38 seconds in his 31-metre trimaran, slashing greater than eight days off the previous report, according to his sponsor.

"i've been running on it for 10 years ... the emotion is intense," he instructed information channel LCI after arriving in Brest.

It became Thomas Coville's 5th attempt to beat a record set in 2008 by means of Francis Joyon, another Frenchman, who sailed round the world in fifty seven days and thirteen hours.

His Sodebo Ultim yacht accomplished a mean velocity of 24.1 knots.

"Mentally I had my highs and my lows however I knew in which I wanted to get to," he instructed Le Parisien newspaper after a voyage in which he said he did not sleep more than three hours at a stretch.

"physically I couldn't have long past an awful lot in addition."
